Alcatel Idol 4 smartphone comes with 3GB of RAM

Alcatel unveiled its smartphones Idol 4 and Idol 4s at its pre-MWC 2016 event earlier this year. The Alcatel Idol 4 will be launched with a VR headset in India and the company says that it marks its foray into the expansive VR space. Lenovo K6 Power

Lenovo has launched its K6 Power smartphone in India at Rs 9,999. Lenovo’s K6 series is successor to company’s Vibe K5 series and K6 Power comes with a similar design language. According to Lenovo, the K6 Power isn’t about specifications, but the experience that it offers to users. The smartphone features a metal-unibody design, 5-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 430 processor and 3GB RAM with a big 4,000 mAh battery. In India, Lenovo K6 Power will directly compete with Xiaomi’s Redmi 3S Prime, which comes at Rs 8,999 and packs a 4,100 mAh battery. We spent some time with Lenovo K6 Power at the launch event, and here’s our first impression of the phone:

Display and Design

Lenovo K6 Power features a metal unibody design with chamfered edges. Given the price point, the K6 Power looks pretty impressive and has a sturdy built. The fingerprint scanner is at the back and Lenovo has added dual stereo speakers placed at the rear of the device. But the smartphone looks a lot like Xiaomi Redmi 3 series on the design front. The K6 Power comes in gold, silver and dark grey colour options.

Lenovo K6 features a 5-inch full HD display with 441 ppi, which is sharp and vibrant. Although we couldn’t take the phone outdoors, viewing angles in a moderately lit room were great. Lenovo is pitching the full HD display as ‘a massive virtual screen experience’ for its TheaterMax technology, which is now a part of all their smartphones.

Processor, Battery and Memory

Lenovo K6 Power is powered by a year old Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.4GHz and Adreno 505 GPU. It comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The apps were quick to open in the limited time that we spent with the device. However, we’ll have more on the performance later in our full review. The dual SIM smartphone is 4G VoLTE-enabled, which is good given the emphasis that we’re seeing on 4G post the Reliance Jio launch.

The smartphone comes with a big 4,000 mAh battery, which claims to provide 48 hours of voice calls and 27 days of standby time. Lenovo has introduced reverse charging with its K6 Power. This means you can use the smartphone to charge other devices as well, which is quite useful.

Camera

Lenovo K6 Power has a 13MP SONYIMX258 rear camera, which comes with features such as PDAF, Manual Pro Mode, Slow Motion and Time lapse. During the time we spent with the rear camera, it was quick to focus even in a dimly lit room and the results were quite decent. We’ll explore the camera in different light conditions in our full review. The front camera is 8MP with wide lens, Auto Beautification and Multiple Snap Modes. I also managed to snap some quick selfies and wasn’t disappointed with the results.

OS

Lenovo K6 Power runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with company’s Pure UI. The UI was simple and easy to use, very much like Stock Android. Lenovo has added the ability to run dual apps on the smartphone and take screenshots of longer articles, which have multiple scrolls. To recall, Xiaomi added these features with MIUI 8 when it unveiled Mi Max. The K6 Power also comes with app lock fingerprint feature, where users can lock individual apps using their fingerprint or lock pattern.

Conclusion

Lenovo K6 Power is a pretty impressive device given the price point. Whats sets it apart from the Redmi 3S is its dual stereo Dolby speakers, TheaterMax technology and a full HD screen; which could easily work in favour of Lenovo. However, the sub-10k segment in India is pretty saturated at this point of time with several smartphone companies offering similar packages. But the fact that Lenovo is going for an open sale for its device could further boost its sales.
